ALLAN SEGULL - "TOCCATA FOR TOMMY"
"I composed Toccata for Tommy for the Sudbury Guitar Trio in the summer of 2013 while sailing on the Baltic. Cast in a compact rondo form, Toccata's propelled by restless motor-rhythms, cross-accents and a modally tinged harmonic language which comes out of the world of one of my favorite albums which I just happened to bring along at the time; Tommy by The Who"
World Premiere - February 7th 2014, SUDBURY, CANADA

BRIAN HULSE - "SHOCK FRONT"
"Eclectic in style but sharp in purpose, "Shock Front," commissioned by Sudbury Guitar Trio, is the result of a combination of love for the guitar...and love for two more guitars. The solo guitar, often a subtle world of delicate sounds, becomes extroverted. All the counterpoint and muscle a composer could want is available with three guitars. Perhaps it should be called "Shock Front for Hyper-guitar." As a single machine is how the work was conceived, and how it should be heard (and played)"

DALE SAKAMOTO - "SAILING ON EMERALD BAY"
“As a native of southern California, I had the opportunity from a young age to learn how to sail and this piece reflects those notions. The first and last sections feature an endless movement without direct harmonic implications and emphasized with modal scales such as Mixolydian and Dorian to create a feeling of unpredictability like the wind filling the sails. The second movement utilizes balanced simplicity with G’s echoing on both sides from guitars 1 and 3 to create a feeling of motion while the pentatonic scale give a static feel with the elimination of tritones and leading tones. The syncopated rhythm drives this section forward before returning to a repeat of the A section where contrapuntal textures and modality once again create a feeling of rushing wind and surging forward.”
World Premiere - July 7th, 2014, MACCANGO, ITALY

LYDIA BRINDAMOUR - "LACE/LEAF"
“In its radical simplicity, this piece, paradoxically, celebrates the incredible intricacy possible with the guitar and the instrument's stubborn refusal to be anything but itself.”
